To Live Longer

Noodle Feast

pixnstories-078-copy.jpg

Little Brother wanted to tag along when we (Second Sister and I) decided to have a food trip along the many lines of Chinese restaurants downtown. In order not to be irked of his wailing, we agreed but telling him that he should behave. And he promised.

While inside the car, second sister and I were talking about the old saying about noodles and pastas that if you eat a lot of them, your life will be longer. Second sister told me that she had heard of it, too.

When we reached the first restaurant, and after ordering noodle feast. Little Brother hurriedly scooped the flat noodles (only) and ate them with gusto. Second sister was about to give him a ravioli but he strongly refused with head turning left and right in disagreement. “And why is that?’ I asked. ‘From now on, I’ll only eat noodles and pastas, all of them, even without the pork, the chicken, the ravioli, the squid ball and everything,” he replied and continued after I showed him a questioning look, “So that I’ll live longer and you die earlier.”

The Little Winged Creature

pixnstories-076-copy.jpg

This little winged creature landed on my daughter’s finger without a warning… Fascinating.

BUTTERFLY TRIVIA:  The magnificent color of butterfly wings does not come from pigmentation directly on the wing, but from the tiny scales that hang on the wing like shingles on a house roof.   These scales are so small they look like powder when rubbed onto the fingers.

Sungka

pixnstories-066-copy.jpg

We played sungka together when we were kids, my cousin and I. He is paraplegic and walked always with his wooden braces. He loves to challenge me with playing sungka and he never won. This had made him all the more wanting to play sungka so that he can beat me. We had fun that summer. I guess we jived together, him - a disabled boy and me - an insecure adolescent. But we jived and we tell each other stories about life and values. Nobody among our cousins want to talk to any of us. That had made us friends.

When I reminisce those times, I look back and smile. We still talk to each other and exchange SMS. We see each other once in a while. We remained friends. He had remained a friend despite his status quo> My cousin is now a prominent political figure.

This Little Boy

pixnstories-059-copy.jpg

Let me tell you a story about this little boy. He seldom smiles at me nor at anybody else except when he’s around with his two older sisters and playmates. He will not go near anybody but his father and mother. He will not allow you to touch him, or cuddle him, or give him a kiss. He is as untamed as the animals in the wild. But if you really want to hear him talk (he talks cute and he sounded like an adult despite his young age) or you wanted him to go near you and let you hug and kiss him, there is one secret.

The secret is nothing new. Food. He seems to have an appetite. He likes to eat. If you had experienced sometime in your life when food was scarce, then maybe you will understand why he can forget that he does not like to be cuddled, hugged and kissed in exchange for food.

The Magic of Crystal

dsc00913-copy.jpg

Crystal climbs on her lap. She is the only thing left for her to go on with life. The most beautiful experience actually. After her mother died, nobody was left. She does not know any of their kins. Life was meaningless, empty, and dry. Her love relations with the opposite sex were never successful. Everything is a failure it seems.

One day, a friend came carrying a baby in her arms, asking her to take care of the little angel. She indeed looked like an angel the first time she saw her. And she is until now. In fact, she is really the angel of her life. God must have had sent her to tell her that life does not suck after all.

It was the magic of crystal that changed her into a new being, one that is ready to face the pointed shafts of the world.
