Mimi scaled the table and with eyes cunningly watching moved toward the piece of cake. She started licking up the icing hastily before Ramona returns from the room (She suddenly remembered her handbag left inside). Ramona’s the boss of the house. She is even superior to Dexter who should be the master of the house. Mimi, by the way, is the household cat.

When Ramona returned briefly from their room, Mimi silently climbed down pretending to be innocent of the crime. Ramona took her seat and began dividing the cake into bite sizes. Contented and unknowing of the crime Mimi committed, she began taking the bite sized cake to her mouth, munching happily.

“Hmm.. the icing is good. You want some, Mimi dear?”

“Meowww.” Mimi responded with a whine encircling her body around Ramona’s leg. Then she climbed her lap.

Ramona’s eyes grew big. There were icing bits on Mimi’s whiskers.

Hello, Kitty

pixnstories-034-copy.jpg

As I look at her sleeping soundly on my palm, I begin to wonder about life’s mystery. Just looking at this tiny thing makes me feel blessed. Holding her makes me realize the connection of each living thing, the importance of life, the beauty of life. and death, even.

I begin to entertain thoughts what if I let her slip and fall from my palm. Will the little kitty die instantly? Will I squirm in horror or remain motionless because of fear? Will I be able to sleep as soundly as she is sleeping right now?

Hello, kitty. I wish you will remain as tame as you are. But it is the feline quality that will not make you as lovable as you are right now. Someday, you will not even go near me except for food.

Stray Cats

“I’m going to throw away the kittens! We cannot afford to feed a lot of cats!”

“But, Pa, they will die out there!”

“I don’t care. I cannot stand them anymore.”

“Please, Pa, let them grow until they weaned.”

“Ok. That’s a deal. If you don’t rid of those cats, I’ll be the one.”

After a few months, one day, when everybody got home, the mother was looking for the two other kittens. It was only one that’s left, and the skinniest. She asked her daughter when she came home.

“The other two kittens are missing. Don’t you think that big stray cat killed them?”

“No, I left them alone outside the house. They will be all right, I hope. At least they’re in the neighborhood. They will survive. I’d prefer that than Papa leaving them still little babies who are dependent of their mother’s milk, and would surely die when left alone.”

“Hmm… Another addition to the stray cats family.”
